LaRoyce Hawkins Exits Chicago PD: Why Fans are Searching
LaRoyce Hawkins, who played Officer Kevin Atwater, leaves the NBC series after 13 seasons.
LaRoyce Hawkins, the actor behind Officer Kevin Atwater, has officially left NBC's Chicago PD after 13 seasons. Atwater's departure was a result of his character realizing he needs to prioritize family life.
The character's exit was written into the show's 14th season, episode 2, where Atwater said goodbye to his colleagues. This marks Hawkins' final appearance as a series regular.
Atwater's narrative revolved around his difficulties in balancing his role as a new father and his duties in the Intelligence Unit, ultimately leading him to choose family over career. His decision to leave the unit was motivated by his desire to prioritize his personal life.
Gwen Sigan, the showrunner of Chicago PD, discussed the character's departure, stating that Atwater arrives at a crossroads where he recognizes the power to make his own choices.
This marks the end of an era for the character, but as with many One Chicago franchise shows, it's not beyond belief that Atwater could return in the future.
